After her marriage fell apart we became really close friends, J--, a cis woman, and me.
Incidentally this happened when I was in my third year of transition.
At one point a few months back J-- said to me: "You have become such an important person in my life, you can't imagine. In those two years we got closer I learned more about myself from you than all my life before, thank to you for just being who you are."
Indeed, cis het people could really learn a ton about themselves if they let in some queerness into their lives – alas, this might also make them question a lot of life choices and fixtures in their lives that they thought were immutable facts like natural laws.
And some of them are afraid of doing that questioning. J-- isn't one of them, in the meantime she calls herself "queer by association - and proud"
