I think a big part of that is the fact that if there has been progress is down to interpretation. For example the Malcolm X interpretation of: “If you stick a knife nine inches into my back and pull it out three inches, that is not progress. Even if you pull it all the way out, that is not progress. Progress is healing the wound, and America hasn’t even begun to pull out the knife.” There’s also those of us looking at it from outside the imperial core where Amerikans recieving a better share of imperial plunder is not only not progress (as Amerika and it’s clients continue to act as they have since 1949) but in fact a regression of progress in many people’s eyes as it orients the interests of the imperial core proletariat to be more inline with the imperialists.

I think my main criticism of it all is that we’re still leaving the reigns in the hands of politicians and organizations. We sit back and wait for moneyed orgs to do the work, when it really needs to be worker-lead. But at the same time it’s also nice to see Mamdani knocking things out that no prior mayor bothered to do. It’s sad how low the bar is in Amerika.
