Actually no, I don't need to. I can instead just make them connect to the sections nicer and now I can position them as sloppily as I can get away with.
Maybe I could even get away with always perpendicular lines + extending the horizontal ones...
(Ignore the fact they start in the middle of the controls for now)

Ok, and now it's all nice and robust. Next is the proper layout - that part is still pretty much staged.
