To me, this is reputation destroying. I remember turning to Ars Technica for great content about computer hardware. Then it became news-y and went a bit questionable at times. Until this, I'd still consider them mostly reliable. Now, they are not. They have crossed a boundary. They can come back, but it will not be easy.
