With the news that fox is buying Roku, I'm more determined than ever that we need a Community Entertainment System #CES But not that CES I've tried lots of different configurations over the last few years and been deeply disappointed with all of them. I've rolled my own software, and been pretty disappointed with it too. But things are more pressing now than they were before, and that makes me more willing to overlook some papercuts and instead focus on getting the 80% product.

  • @ajroach42@retro.social @kevin@mastodon.km6g.us Interesting thread. I'm currently using Emby (call it a Jellyfin fork). I have a few libreelec and nvidia shield boxes around, and when I want to play music I open my phone app and tell the server to play to the le box. I think it works with video as well (dlna). I don't really have to care what the interface is on the player. If I don't want to use my phone the emby app is cromulent enough. I'm a nerd but non-nerds at home seem to get by ok. Is Jellyfin not as polished? I've stayed on Emby mostly due to inertia and low maintenance.

I'm still in a car and still more than 3 hours from home, driving through rural Alabama, so I may not update this thread as quickly as I otherwise would. But this is a thread.
