@venya@musicians.today @brad@1040ste.net It has been literal decades but I recall using some open source app that spoke ActiveSync to drag Exchange mail to my local inbox and then just used mutt, and later did the same with Gmail. It was nice to separate the client from the syncing problem, and I think I just set up authenticated SMTP rules for the outbound.
Long-winded way to ask, have you tried mutt? I can't imagine it no longer maintained.

@knapjack@social.vivaldi.net @venya@musicians.today I tried mutt a few years ago, but my heart wasn't in it at the time, and I had a fiddle about with Alpine today. I remember using PINE back in the day and it being ok; I'm not blown away by the built-in editor PICO though, I've always irrationally hated nano and, well. Looks like it's time to give mutt a proper go 😊 As long as I can use Vi as the editor I will be happy. Synching with a separate process is doable too. Time for fetchmail to step once more into the breach?
