#WritersCoffeeClub day 19: How can prose achieve lyricism without verse structure?
The same way free verse poetry does? I mean, it's only barely poetry, IMO¹, but it does at least usually have a lyrical quality. And that's achieved by choosing words with attention to their rhythm, flow, sonority, and evocative connotations.
1. This doesn't mean I haven't written any! I have. But I also sympathize in an amused fashion with Don Marquis' stance... 1/2

...in _archy and mehitabel_, in which Archy was reincarnated as a cockroach to atone for his sins of being a free-verse poet. Brutal? Yes. Valid? Also yes. 2/2 #WritersCoffeeClub
