People have lots of opinions on this; I assume my readers will be divided no matter what conclusion I come to. (And I may not do so; I may very well leave it unresolved, or essentially have the "resolution" be that there *isn't* a single, good answer to this problem.) 2/2

#WritersCoffeeClub May 7: Do readers need to understand a character's motivations to understand the story? That's an excellent question, and one I've never thought about before. My off-the-cuff answer is that yeah, they probably do. But I'm open to persuasion in either direction.
