If readers feel that the characters were flat, the plot too simple or too boring, or the setting too vague, then it wasn't enough. If nobody has any of those problems, then you did enough.

#WritersCoffeeClub May 16: What's a writerly risk you've taken recently? Did it pay off? I can't think of any, honestly. I've looked back over my notes for the past month-plus and I don't see anything that looks like any more of a risk than anything else. 🤷🏻
