In california they can throw a person in prison for contempt if they fail to find work under a child support order, but it's totally not slavery to the state. Moss v. Superior Court.
> We conclude that there is no constitutional impediment to imposition of contempt sanctions on a parent for violation of a judicial child support order when the parent's financial inability to comply with the order is the result of the parent's willful failure to seek and accept available employment that is commensurate with his or her skills and ability.

I was found in contempt of a MA order while living in PA. It's not just a CA issue. I think it's Country wide. I looked into it decades ago. Veterans have a high rate of suicide over this. It's heartbreaking. I was fortunate to only spend a few days in County with 4 other ladies.
