@violent_grimes@kolektiva.social @gabrielesvelto@mas.to Remember that Samsung is a bizarrely huge conglomerate, which includes all sorts of businesses under its umbrella. Do you need a boat repaired? Do you want to hire an advertising team? Samsung are one of the world's largest in both of those industries. They own a bank, they do insurance, they do construction, they do all sorts of stuff. As such, if you count up all of Samsung's workers you end up with bank tellers and construction site workers and marketing people, all of whom are still workers and deserve the whole of the value they produce, but who are unlikely to be unionised together with the electronics workers who make up the core of the company. As a union organiser, I can understand that this sort of thing is hard-mode for us: people want to unionise along with their fellow workers, which makes sense, but it's very difficult to extend that union to other parts of a conglomerate without risking the union getting captured by management. So, I read the news item as "all the workers in electronics got that huge payday, which is great, but not the people in the shipyards and so forth."

  • @passenger@kolektiva.social @gabrielesvelto@mas.to welp, there it is...and not sure if you noticed but this article is from May, along with any other article I can find on the topic. images 1 & 2 Device Solutions Division sounds a hell of a lot like upper managerial and maybe top level engineering position image 3 Literally what I said was happening, the workers got fucked here while the petty bourgeoisie got there little cut off the top from the ruling class. image 4 This could have been a big fucking international move but it wasn't. It got hushed up and rushed through because that's how it always goes with AFL style labor unions. --- An injury to one is an injury to all. If we don't stand together, we get nothing while they keep it all for themselves. As a labor organizer I'm sure you aren't unfamiliar with the way this shit works (IBEW myself). time to stop these back room negotiations with labor "leadership" and the fucking bosses. If we aren't all in the room, it ain't collective bargaining. --- link of all images but #2, that's from Samsung's US website, though I doubt it's much different in South Korea https://www.plataformamedia.com/en/2026/05/27/samsung-unions-approve-wage-deal-avoid-strike-south-korea/
