Looks like the EU will press ahead with creating the digital euro - more evidence that Trump's actions, such as imposing sanctions implicating Visa and Mastercard against the ICC judges that issued a war crimes arrest warrant on Netanyahu - will end up removing Europe from US markets - Visa and Mastercard will not be able to compete against the digital euro - and undermining the reserve currency status of the dollar. Trump and his sycophants clearly do not understand the implications of this course of action (such as the ruination of the US economy). What I don't understand is why work is not underway to simply extend the French Cartes Bancaires network (perhaps it is - under the radar - does anybody know?). In France, card payments are not processed by Visa or Mastercard but by the not-for-profit co-op Cartes Bancaires It charges relatively low, clear and predictable processing fees, unlike the US companies dominant elsewhere.
