The other day, at work, a young colleague and I were chatting about how the US Government put export controls on Claude Fable. I said that it reminded me how, back in the 90's, when you wanted to download Netscape it would ask you if you wanted the “US" or “International" edition - the difference being that the US edition supported 128-bit SSL, and the International edition only supported 40-bit SSL - because back then, there were export controls on cryptography. And then she responded with "What's Netscape?" and my brain short-circuited 😧
