I mean, the savior in the story is literally called the Mahdi, which is also the savior in Shia Islam.

The Mahdi is a universally accepted prophesy, and one many pretenders have attempted. Most are on par with the Leader of the Boxer Rebellion on that they never read the details behind said prophecy.
