Three good things: -After three years of living in the same city, it’s finally feeling like home -a woman who I often buy dinner from, a woman that first was cold with me as a foreigner, now wraps her arms around me and puts her head to my shoulder, a hug! In this economy! I cradle her head at my shoulder and cry with joy. -a child of a noodle shop smiles at me and says: พี่แฟงสวยมาก which means “elder foreigner is very beautiful” I responded with ขอบคุณมาก thank you very much child gasped ชาวต่างชาติที่มีอายุมากกว่าพูดภาษาไทยได้? “Elder foreigner speaks Thai? I respond ฉันพูดภาษาไทยได้นิดหน่อย I speak a little Thai. (The joy of this exchange is that while I will maybe always be seen as a foreigner because of the color of my skin, this child saw me as her elder and spoke directly to me, smiling so big!) #3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings
