From Rhodes' The Making of the Atomic Bomb and his follow up book for the hydrogen bomb, Russia had the Manhattan Project pretty well infiltrated. Even without precise designs just the fact that various processes and devices were possible was enough for their own capable physicists and engineers to work it out on their own. The US was never going to be a singular nuclear power for long.
