But fr fr tho, #Juneteenth is the distinctly Black American holiday because America's history is distinctly black. The country's never fully reckoned with slavery or accepted our liberation.
Even Juneteenth is a correction to injustice, a celebration of long overdue Black liberation from captivity that persisted in the South past the Civil War.
Some much of American, especially modern American history is predicated on ignoring or hiding Black history. Making it a federal holiday forces that conversation.
I like that some white people get mad about Juneteenth or don't understand it or think it's made up. It's useful for learning who to avoid.
