Mary Shelley is getting spayed tomorrow! And then hopefully we’ll find her a home soon. She was an amazing mamacat, but now her kittens are all adopted and she’s ready to retire. (And by the time the kittens left, she really *was* ready to retire. 😅) I don’t know how many litters she had when she was living on the street, but I’m glad she was able to have one where everybody was healthy and cared for and safe and loved.

Mary Shelley has been spayed! And I’m struck once again by the fundamental feminism behind cat rescue, which is often about this kind of reproductive health. Nature designed cats to be reproductive powerhouses in a way that’s not needed with human care — they don’t need to have so many kittens in an environment where the vast majority of them survive.
