1964 Laverne Peterson is featured in the Sunday Star-Bulletin and Advertiser after completing her gender affirming procedures. As she is Hawai'ian, the coverage is distinctly exotified.
1965 Delisa Newton is touted as "The First Negro Sex Change," and in her 1966 autobiography in Sepia says because of her race "it took twice as long to get the operation."

1953 Carlett Brown Angianlee is featured in five articles in Jet as she renounces her US citizenship and prepares to travel to Denmark, become a citizen, and pursue gender affirming procedures. The last installment reports that she is prevented from leaving the country, and she disappears from the historical record thereafter.
