@PhilSalkie@mindly.social I've been hearing reports about how hailstones are getting larger due to climate conditions. I wonder if wind turbines are better able to survive strikes by softball-sized clumps of ice than solar panels or oil & gas power plants.

    @Nazani@universeodon.com The solar arrays which pivot to track the sun can be set vertical to minimize damage during hailstorms (and snow storms, to minimize accumulation.) Maybe we'll start seeing anti-hailstone netting mounted over stationary arrays in high-hail areas. I suspect a blade that's as wide as a semi truck and as long as an American football field is not going to much mind even extra large hailstones, but it's certainly going to have to be factored into the designers' calculations.
