Recently, the African Union, counting 55 countries as members, voted to officially reject the mercator projection, in favor of the Equal Earth Map. This last one correctly represents the size differences in countries relative to each others. Just got to see a video talking about it showing both maps, and although I had already seen these maps and the problem with projections, it's a very good reminder of how the mercator projection has completely prevented a good part of the general public (me included) of understanding how immense the African continent is, for centuries now. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/BH9rGGQMy9A
