@VoltPaperScissors@chaos.social I had a Lego model in the 90s that did something similar.
it drove straight ahead by rear wheel drive. When something collided, the back wheel came closer to the front, lifting the body slightly and engaging reverse for a set time.
It was geared in a way that backwards motion meant the steering got tilted. So forwards until collision, backwards curve until new direction, forwards again.
it successfully navigated my bedroom until the batteries went empty. :-D

@dat@social.g33ky.de I had a humanoid robot on the same principle: I think it was driving by the two from wheels, and a small free running pivoting wheel at the back, that was straight when driving forward. There was a switch at the front that would cause it to reverse, so the back wheel would pivot (it could do so in only one direction) and the robot would turn, then after a while go forward again. @VoltPaperScissors@chaos.social

@dat@social.g33ky.de that is also a nice concept! I am thinking of ways to DIY a robot like this, maybe with basic electronics.
