Okay, there we go. PSU lights up when given 12V. That’s… green, right?
Maybe there just wasn’t enough juice on the battery terminals. That buck converter I was using is a little weak. This thing has a microcontroller on it, so it’s apparently kind of smart.

This thing actually has two NiCd batteries, both smartly tucked away and connected via long cables. The larger one seems to go directly to the power board, so maybe it holds battery charging information? They’re both pretty dead, as you’d expect.
