let's be honest, most movies are some weighted mix of other media (photography, storywriting, music scoring, audio plays and stage plays, illustration, etc) but House is one of those that are film-first, every scene is moviemaking magic, greater than sum of its parts, yadda yadda yadda

I've learned more about Obayashi and seen more of his films, he was seemingly a big sweetie who loved life and imagination and youth (and hated war), all of that is evident in House but packaged in such a slapstick way. equally valid to enjoy it as a surface level "bonkers horror comedy" ('horror' and 'comedy' in the biggest scare quotes ever)
