The Spanish words ‘primavera’ (spring) and ‘verano’ (summer) both derive from Latin ‘vēr’ (spring).
Originally, ‘primavera’ was early spring, while ‘verano’ was late spring.
However, their meanings shifted to later in the year, and ‘estío’, the original word for summer, was dethroned.
