RE: https://mastodon.online/@mullvadnet/116674808630304817 "It will be interesting to follow the countries that pursue system-level control as they move further down the slippery slope toward open-source systems. Since open-source systems cannot be controlled, politicians would ultimately need to ban devices that are not controlled by the state. The end point: telescreens like those in Orwell’s 1984, devices that both monitor you and broadcast only the information approved by the state."

@isomoth@infosec.exchange If I cannot have legacy uncontrolled devices I will refuse to have ANY. No fucking quarter on this one, zero cooperation. I do not use Windows or stock Android, and I do not use any US, EU, or other corporate social media site. There is not anything anywhere on the network I value enough to submit to an ID check to get it. Real world: people will stop throwing away older phones and computers that don't get updates any more. Like "pre-ban" high capacity gun magazines during the US 1994-2004 "assault weapon" ban, they will instantly get a substantial increase in market value. They will trade on Ebay and Craigslist if legal, on 2backpage and darknet sites if illegal. If you want one you'll be able to get it.
