@kbal@fedia.io @mullvadnet@mastodon.online @crazyeddie@mastodon.social this. If it was anonymous then it would also be transferrable, which would defeat the supposed purpose. It's almost as if the actual purpose is increasing surveillance capabilities 🤔

There's a unique identifier it refers to that refers to you for anyone that knows that id is attached to you. The split between ID and credential means you can share only that which is relevant. For example, maybe you need to verify that you're >18 but that person doesn't need your real name or verified address or any of that crap. Each is a different credential. These can be validated out of band. Meaning nobody has to talk to anyone else.
