@dedicto@zeroes.ca @janeishly@beige.party I built a 300 baud acoustic modem from a kit, using the mic and speaker from an old phone, which were then attached to my regular handset with rubber bands. I also implemented a kind of simple Huffman compression to be able to receive text almost twice as fast, and the Emacs-like editor would refresh the screen starting with the line that the cursor was on, and then alternate on either side of that towards the top and bottom. It was fine.
