This is all over the place online, but it's still pretty depressing. Fucking sucks, the state of the series as it was left. And worse, the usual bigoted idiots are going to smugly suggest it's because the show "went woke". For me, Gatwa wasn't the best doctor by a long shot. But when he was at his best, he was quite good. His queer angle made complete sense to me, so that was never an issue. But making him constantly weeping in nearly every episode or so destroyed any impact when something big DID happen. _"Oh, he's crying... is it a big deal, or is it just another Tuesday?"_ But something clearly happened there, with his sudden exit. I suspect one day we'll hear more about it, like we did with Eccleston. (Two actors having series-disrupting issues with RTD? Hmm...) Jodie Whittaker was in a similar situation: she was terrific at her best, but the episodes she wound up in were hit or miss. Other than Graham her companions were mostly lukewarm wallpaper. I can barely remember any stories with her, too. What's up with that? Fuck, even Capaldi's run was hit or miss; though many mediocre episodes were elevated by his participation. He's a great actor with a shit ton of gravitas. Thankfully, his final season, with Bill, before leaving, was arguably his best. But other than that season, I'd argue the show has always been on a downward trajectory. I can't put my finger on it, but since the 2005 soft reboot, it's been appointment television for me. And then at some point during Smith's run, post-Pond, my enthusiasm waned a bit. I still watched, but at some point it just turned into an "obligation". A state where the pull was the dwindling possibility that the next episode JUST MIGHT be a banger... maybe... I dunno what to think anymore. :/ https://deadline.com/2026/06/doctor-who-christmas-canceled-russell-t-davies-bbc-bad-wolf-1236952398/ #doctorwho
