At 11:59pm, the SAG-AFTRA contract talks ceased. They will start picketing tomorrow. This is the first time both SAG-AFTRA and WGA have been on strike together since 1960. As a #writer, I feel very connected to these outcomes. As a #freelancer, I have no union to protect me. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA negotiations are about the financial value of creative talent. They are about how society views what we’ve come to call “knowledge” work. If your income is based on what you know and how you use those brain skills, you should care about the outcome of these negotiations. We should *all* be as worried as SAG-AFTRA "We're looking for...informed consent & fair compensation if you're going to use any kind of AI or digital technology to recreate someone's image or likeness" We can't let corporate greed and discussions of "cost savings" or "time savings" take from us the thing that make us human - our thoughts and our physical selves.
