Asking my designer for advice on microcopy. She asked for some more context. So... obviously I wrote her a story TL;DR: What do we say when we get a 404 for a specific unit of data One day a short man named James went to look up the details of his beautiful new ${hardware}. Selecting his unit on the units list, he expected to be presented with some stunning data on ${thingy}. He looked at the "Loading..." message on his lovely unit page. He looked at it some more. Years passed. He grew old. He was still... waiting for it to load. It turns out, that he got the wrong link for his unit. The super cool developers who work on this product can tell this unit doesn't exist and knows that the API call for this unit results in a 404! They just didn't surface this to James! Only we can heal his pain, only we can stop him waiting for data that will never come.
