@HodgesC@mas.to @mclare@recurse.social I haven't had any watch since 1995 or so. I've thought of Garmin/Polar for heart rate etc., and to not carry my phone when going running, and maybe hiking to include a compass as well. Not to wear normally. But I'm not paying for something that requires an account, so I've just been using the Out-Run app that's entirely local, and how Apple's own fitness app also does tracking, hopefully entirely local. (But you need a **** account and phone numbers to install anything.)

@nerdbear@masto.ai @mclare@recurse.social When I've looked at Garmin watches (modern ones I mean, not just the 2006 model that's somehow ended up in my house) I haven't found the mapping to be good enough for my exploring runs, let alone cycling, but it's a nice idea.

@nerdbear@masto.ai @mclare@recurse.social The (Android-only) bike computer app I use was a one-off payment costing around 1-2 coffees, to a real human. I was happy to pay that, but don't do subscriptions, and especially not for apps (I mean at all - my only recurring payments are taxes and necessary bills)
