They are the future, and I am optimistic that the current UX shortcomings will be ironed out in due time.

I think the biggest hurdle right now is probably public education; both for users and devs. They definitely require more work to implement than passwords, but less work to use. My mom asked me what passkeys were while I was visiting for Christmas this week, but I didn't have a simple way to explain them to her :/
