Everytime we learn something knew about ourselves, the question of whether to bring it up in therapy or not comes up. It’s not that I don’t trust my therapist right now, but I’ve never experienced having my thoughts about who I am validated. I know I’m autistic and have some ADHD symptoms and even if my therapist agrees, they wouldn’t completely say that I could get a diagnosis. The same is happening for our eating disorder. Because every time we bring something true about ourselves we are met with skepticism and the principle that we should always test first to be sure. Now that we think we are a median system due to our BPD symptoms in the past, I can only imagine them being unsure and making me feel like I’m self-diagnosing without knowing better. We don’t like the labels that diagnosis give us so we don’t look for them, and I wonder if that seems to invalidate my experience to the rest of the world.
