@crash I had this vision a while ago that I never really spent any time pursuing where you just let people type a username and password but then you just like hash them together in some way and that hash is the "user key". if you do the hashing on the client side you never even send the username/email/password over the network. then, also, they can let a password manager save the "username and password" for logging in, without having to use a new system. I think the reason I didn't pursue was because I wanted something slightly above a toy application where people could change passwords or usernames or something, or maybe there's some other obvious issue with it, but this post just reminded me of this.
