@jzb@hachyderm.io several months ago I read an article on teaching how to play musical instruments with positive feedback only: apparently highlighting what works great reinforces that very skill. Even if it's just several seconds of a decent vibrato, highlighting that helps the learner repeat and extend the well working movements on later exercises. I've found that in open source communities that positive feedback also helps people understand which types of contributions are needed.
