During the CSUN Conference, I was trying to get to the exhibit hall but was having trouble finding it. For context, I am blind, so I asked a woman if she could help me. She suggested I try GoodMaps. I told her I had already tried it and that it wasn’t working. I explained that I searched for “Exhibit Hall,” but couldn’t find the room. She clarified that the room is listed under its actual name and does not include “Exhibit Hall” in the GoodMaps listing.
I also mentioned that GoodMaps doesn’t seem to work well in crowded places like the exhibit hall, since I had been there the day before and struggled with it. She said it does work, but I needed to move my phone around more for it to function properly.
I thanked her for her help, and eventually I was able to find the exhibit hall in the GoodMaps app. I then asked for her name, and she told me she was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at GoodMaps. At that point, I was thinking, “Thank goodness I wasn’t really bad-mouthing GoodMaps that would have been awkward.”
It just goes to show that it’s a small world you never know who you’ll run into at CSUN.
