@thomasfuchs I dug up my old VCR recently that'd been stored since 1998 or so with the tape still inside. And hey, it all still works. The tape played fine, it was a TV taping of a Therion concert from Poland that they showed on VIVA once. The fact that VHS works at all with that high-speed diagonal head-spinning wizardry is already mind-blowing but after 25 years in storage, wow. (That said, all my Zip drives and disks sitll work too, so maybe not all that surprising for magnetic media?)
