@edavies@functional.cafe I don't disagree, but our strategy within the institutions was not to rely on the fundamental rights' argument.
In any case, the legal services of both the Council of the EU and Parliament concluded the law would be illegal, and their conclusions were ignored in the Council.
2. ChatControl wouldn't automatically apply to all chat platforms, only ones where the Commission proves there is a "threat". (likely WhatsApp, Signal)

@jmaris@eupolicy.social Ah, I'd missed the bit about #ChatControl only applying to platforms the Commission targets. Thank you. Not sure how I feel about that, though.
