The trip home compared to the trip out two days ago: Chalk and cheese. There's a big high pressure system over Victoria at the moment. High pressure systems typically create mild and stable conditions; Those warm windless days of blue-sky sunshine in winter are almost all under the influence of a high. Today's QNH was 1031 hPa. "Standard atmosphere" is 1013.2 hPa. On Friday the freezing level was about 4500' AMSL. Today it was above 10,000'. Warm conditions just about everywhere. Departing Stonefield Gliding YSFG at about 10:30am UTC+9:30, I tracked to Mildura at 7000' on an IFR flight plan. Barely a puff of convection anywhere, smooth as silk. There was an overcast near Mildura, so I set up for the RNP to runway 09, but broke out visual at 4000' and didn't need it. 57 minutes YSFG - YMIA. Fuel and a coffee in the aeroclub kitchen. Onwards, ever onwards... https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/VHSOL/history/20260607/0120Z/YSFG/YMIA #avgeek 1/
