Is there really no one with the skills to run self hosted alternatives to discord?

@suqdiq@chaos.social Running a self-hosted Discord alternative (like Matrix, for example) requires that someone pay for a domain name & also pay for hosting the server where the Dendrite, Bifrost, Synapse, etc. thing is to be installed, & that costs money that not everyone can afford (& not everyone is willing to donate monthly to a Patreon, LiberaPay, etc. fund from which to draw the funds for paying all the server expenses, but also not everyone wants to see revenue ads on the services they use). @phrack@haunted.computer
