A small child, human, bent over a puddle arranging pebbles in patterns only meaningful to a child. Tall, faceless buildings overshadowed the stone courtyard where the youngster played. Grey light from the overcast sky glinted on rain slicked cobblestones. Mud had spattered the hem of the child’s patched and faded dress as they crouched beside the puddle. While they adjusted the positions of several pebbles the child hummed a nursery-rhyme. They giggled when they picked up one of the small rocks and tossed it away. Without turning their head the child said, “I’ve been alone for so long… so long… But now you’re here!” their voice brightened. - excerpt from 'Furry Inside' #writing #amwriting
