Thinking about a conversation I had a while back about adding stuff to the game. A person who is a IRL enthusiast about stuff in question was arguing that if anyone has any of the stuff in question, they have practically every variety of said stuff. Setting aside a chronic inability admit that non-enthusiasts exist at all, I was finally able to get to the crux of the issue, which was their belief that if you are *at all* willing to buy the thing, ever, you will inevitably buy every variety because they're "so cheap". I end up having a lot of conversations with people arguing for things in bad faith because at the end of the day all they actually care about is arguing for some outcome they want in the game, but this was one of the most absolutely pathological conversations I've ever had that I came away thinking they actually believed what they were saying, despite the argument as a whole being wildly internally inconsistent.
