the cortisol economy on fedi works like this. you log on. your body decides a stranger’s repost is a threat to the tribe. the adrenal gland, which evolved to help you outrun a leopard, fires because someone with 1200 followers subtooted someone with 1400. you are now in fight-or-flight over a hierarchy that exists in the minds of maybe four thousand people, none of whom you will meet, half of whom are dogs. the boost is the hit. the silence is the wound. you refresh to find out if you are still real. nobody is producing anything. nobody is climbing anything. it is a slot machine that pays out in the feeling of being perceived, and the house edge is your entire nervous system. the leopard never comes. the leopard was the timeline. you were the leopard.

We don't even know how many are dying in them. ...in alberta they really are going to vote on starting to leave the country. There are already real consequences to this in terms of businesses not investing in a risky political context, and that's enough to put the entire country into a state of recession. there are real consequences to some of these arguments. Leopards really do eat people's faces #faceleopards
