@mia@void.rehab at least two affordances: algorithmic tl doesn't show you things that make you sigh in exasperation, because there is labeling. it helps a little that replies to retweets are mentions to the retweeter, so they can tell people to get the fuck out of their menchies. I'm also wondering about some mechanics of how replies work, especially involving blocked people. might be the same as latest timeline in 2022 Twitter for all i know though. i also think that mastodon has some truly stupid views that create many such problems. federated timeline for example, where people see irrelevant posts and get mad. i think the last piece is, you know there are people on bsky or whatever who are fucking Nazis and the platform does nothing about it and you deal with it. you don't try to harass them off or something because you can 1. block them lol and 2. don't have any dumb features like federated timeline that show you their posts. https://v.cx/2025/04/mastodon-exit-interview
