@micahilbery@mstdn.social l few thoughts I have on this thread some agreeing some disagreeing:
1. the "it needs to be open sourced" is a facebook line. Open weights is not open source stop letting them tell you it is
2. I feel like a lot of the "but just open source it" comes from people who think having a server in their spare room is a 100% normal thing that most people can do. Its not. Most people cant throw 5k at computing gear and high uptime power and internet.

@micahilbery@mstdn.social 3. I don't think the theft argument is as strong as we wish it is. Intellectual property is still property, and property, is theft. If you make art, or write a book, or I write code (or give my attempt at what you could call art) I don't own it, I was the first person to make it but that does not give me the sole rights to do whatever I want with it. It is not mine. It is an idea that exists and no one owns ideas. IP exists to protect large companies not small independent producers
