Reminds that there is a strategy, particularly in politics, that is really important to recognise: Never solve the problem that you say you are going to solve, because if you actually solve it, and people believe that it has been solved, your whole platform is suddenly moot. There are a number of variations of this strategy, it often goes together with talking up a problem that doesn't really exist, or outright creating or worsening said problem.

It is not that identifying it when someone does this is usually particularly difficult. But calling it out and making the broader population aware can be very tricky, as people simply refuse to believe that something like this is going on. What protects these people is that what they do is so outrageous that most ordinary people won't believe it. It is easier to believe that those calling it out are conspiracy nut jobs.
