The umbrella-handedness poll has ended with 47 respondents! Thank you all for indulging my random interest! A few things I learned:
* Only 4 options in a Mastodon poll
* You can only vote if you have a Mastodon account
* Poll creator also can't see who voted (nice to confirm firsthand)
* People are really interested in odd little questions and happy to help boost
* People can interpret things in a way you didn't expect, or share an experience that you didn't think of - it's super interesting

Based on the results: it's likely more common to encounter an open umbrella being held on the right! ☂️ What caused this: I was ambidextrous as a kid, and now right-handed (likely due to right-hand bias in our environments/tools). I still do some things with my left hand, like brushing teeth/hair. I was on a rainy walk with an umbrella in my left hand and passed another person with an umbrella. Several min later I thought, "Which hand were they using?" But then I didn't see any more umbrellas!
