i've got a lot of travel planned for the next 12months and decided i'd apply for an american esta on my uk passport just in case the fascists decide that my us passport isn't valid anymore, and got promptly denied on it. at this point i'm only using the us passport to reenter the states and not travel on it, but it is feeling more and more useless.
