I’ve been a Pokémon fan for as long as I can remember, but I drifted away from the games during the Nintendo DS era.
When I came back, a new type, Fairy, had been introduced. And it threw off my understanding of the game’s balancing that never fully recovered.
Whenever I play, I find myself constantly googling type matchups. I figured an app would be a much nicer experience, but I wasn’t impressed with any of the existing options.
And so I built Aether.

It’s a very simple little app, so there’s not much more to say. You can read some more of its inception here: https://www.benricemccarthy.com/introducing-aether/

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social you nailed exactly what happened to me. I was an expert in type matching until Fairy came and rocked my world. But that made it more fun, in the end. Still though, if I come across a Pokémon that’s Fairy + Anything, my brain turns to mush.
